The Italian market for aluminium bars, rods and profiles experienced significant volatility from 2018 to 2024. After a decline in 2019, market volume recovered in 2020, reaching 560.6 thousand tonnes.

A pronounced growth phase occurred in 2021, with volume surging to 699.8 thousand tonnes and value jumping to 2 968 million USD. This expansion was fueled by rising industrial demand for aluminium profiles in automation, alongside the launch of highly customizable profiles with tight tolerances by manufacturers such as Profall, which directly addressed the needs of Italian industrial consumers.

The market continued to grow in 2022, but faced a sharp contraction in 2023 before stabilizing in 2024 at a volume of 613.3 thousand tonnes and a value of 2 520 million USD.

Over the four-year span, production rose by 4.8%, corresponding to a compound annual growth rate of 1.6%.

From 2017 to 2020, exports fell by 6%, translating to an annualized decline of 2.0%.

From 2017 to 2020, Germany, France, and Belgium were the top destinations for Italy's exports of aluminium bars, rods and profiles in volume terms. Germany accounted for 34.5% of exports, France for 11.0%, and Belgium for 5.1%, together making up 50.5% of total export flows.

The peak export value was in 2018 at 1 050 million US dollars, which experienced a 17.4% increase, the largest in the period. In 2019, exports dropped by 10.0%, the steepest decline. Overall, from 2017 to 2020, exports decreased by 4.8%, with a compound annual growth rate of -1.6%.
