President Rahmon's decree simplifying customs inspection for exported produce helped maintain export volumes, while the potential for year-round open-field cultivation supported production. The following year, further export facilitation through the removal of contract requirements for shipments under invoice allowed exports to remain steady at 83.1 thousand tons, but a drop in production reduced domestic market volume to 575.3 thousand tons.

By 2020, production dipped further to 642.7 thousand tons, and exports rose to 90.2 thousand tons, shrinking the market to 553.3 thousand tons. The year 2021 saw a sharp reversal: exports collapsed to 10.3 thousand tons, while production recovered to 664.9 thousand tons, pushing market size to a peak of 654.7 thousand tons.

In November 2022, a new decree eliminated several export requirements for individual entrepreneurs, simplifying procedures and contributing to a rebound in exports to 66.8 thousand tons, which pulled market size down to 588.3 thousand tons. In 2023, government efforts to establish direct contracting with Kazakhstan for off-season vegetable supplies pointed to future export opportunities, but market volume edged up to 602.3 thousand tons as exports moderated and production held firm.

Tajikistan's production of alliaceous vegetables has declined for the second year in a row. In 2020, the country produced 642.7 thousand tons, marking a slight year-over-year decrease of 2.4%. Looking at the period from 2017 to 2020, production actually grew by 14.6%, which translates to an average annual increase of 4.6%. The highest production level was recorded in 2018 at 696.6 thousand tons, when output surged by 24.2%. However, the following year saw the largest decline of 5.5%.
