Russia opens veterinary logistics hub with capacity to label 30 million units a year
Russia is opening a specialized customs and logistics hub for veterinary medicines and animal feed. The facility can label up to 30 million product units annually and store more than 10,000 pallets at a time.
Specialized hub combines customs and logistics services
Russia is opening a multifunctional customs and logistics hub dedicated to veterinary medicines and animal feed. According to Meatinfo, logistics company Ruscon, part of Delo Group, developed the project jointly with pharmaceutical operator NC Logistic. The center will provide logistics and customs services to companies operating in the animal-health supply chain.
The facility can label up to 30 million product units a year. Its warehouses can hold more than 10,000 pallets at one time, while the operators plan to process about 5,000 customs declarations annually. Some products can be stored at temperatures between +2°C and +8°C, an important requirement for temperature-sensitive veterinary medicines.
The combination of customs clearance, labeling, storage and temperature-controlled handling is intended to reduce the number of separate service providers involved in a shipment. This is particularly relevant for importers that must coordinate border procedures with product-level traceability and regulated storage before goods can enter distribution.
Import flows have shifted toward Southeast Asia
Meatinfo reports that Russia previously had no specialized veterinary logistics hubs of this kind. Demand for the facility has emerged as the government strengthens control over the circulation of veterinary products and introduces item-level accounting for veterinary medicines and feed.
The main import flows for veterinary medicines now come from Southeast Asian countries, according to the publication. Supplies from the European Union have declined because of anti-Russian sanctions. The change has altered transport routes and supplier relationships, increasing the importance of infrastructure capable of receiving imported products and completing Russian customs and labeling procedures in one location.
Temperature control remains the main difficulty in transporting veterinary products and directly affects their final cost. Maintaining a range of +2°C to +8°C requires suitable warehouses, handling procedures and transport connections. For small and medium-sized importers, access to a specialized operator may reduce the operational burden of building those capabilities independently, although cold-chain requirements will remain a component of landed prices.
Growing sales add pressure on traceability capacity
Russia's veterinary product market continued to expand in early 2026. Meatinfo says veterinary pharmacies, pet stores and marketplaces sold more than 131.7 million units worth 25.7 billion rubles during the first five months of 2026. The reported value was 19% above the level recorded a year earlier.
Demand for animal feed additives also increased by 14.5% over the same period, reaching 2 billion rubles. These figures indicate rising volumes moving through retail and digital sales channels at the same time as regulators require more detailed product tracking. The new hub's annual labeling capacity of 30 million units is therefore substantial, but it represents only part of the broader market volume reported across veterinary retail.
For exporters in Southeast Asia, the center creates a dedicated entry point offering customs processing, regulated storage and labeling for the Russian market. For Russian importers and distributors, its practical value will depend on turnaround times, cold-chain reliability and the cost of consolidating services at the hub. Planned processing of about 5,000 declarations a year also provides a benchmark for how much cross-border traffic the facility expects to handle.
