Polish agri-food exports approach €29 billion in first half of 2026

Exports generate a €9.6 billion surplus

Poland’s agri-food exports reached nearly €29 billion in the first half of 2026, according to a communication from the National Support Centre for Agriculture, or KOWR, cited by farmer.pl. The country’s positive agri-food trade balance rose by more than 7% to €9.6 billion.

The figures reinforce Poland’s position as a major food supplier within Europe. KOWR attributed the increase in foreign sales to Poland’s continued strength in international supply chains, faster export growth outside the European Union, higher transaction prices for food in international trade and a euro-zloty exchange rate that was more favorable to exporters.

Meat and meat preparations remained among the leading export categories. Other important product groups included cereal grain and cereal preparations, tobacco and tobacco products, sugar and confectionery, dairy products, processed fish, vegetables, fruit and products made from them.

Processed products account for €20 billion

Higher-value processed goods continued to play a growing role in the export mix. The value of highly processed and partly processed agri-food exports increased by 2.3% year on year to €20 billion during the period. Exports of unprocessed and minimally processed products amounted to €9 billion.

This composition means that roughly two-thirds of export revenue came from products that had undergone at least partial processing. For Polish processors, the figures point to the commercial importance of converting domestic and imported agricultural inputs into meat preparations, dairy products, confectionery, cereal foods and other goods with greater added value.

The shift also matters for producers and traders because processed products connect agricultural output with manufacturing capacity, packaging, logistics and retail demand. At the same time, the €9 billion contribution from raw and minimally processed goods shows that primary commodities remain a substantial part of Poland’s external food trade.

EU buyers take 74% of shipments

The European Union remained the principal destination. Poland sent €21.5 billion, equivalent to 91 billion zlotys, of agri-food products to other EU countries. The bloc accounted for 74% of total Polish agri-food export value.

Germany was the largest individual buyer, receiving €7 billion of products and representing 24% of the total. France followed with €2.1 billion and a 7% share. The Netherlands bought €1.6 billion, equal to 6%, while Italy received €1.5 billion and the Czech Republic €1.4 billion; each accounted for 5%.

Sales outside the EU reached €7.5 billion, or 32 billion zlotys, and represented 26% of the geographical export structure. KOWR said exports to selected markets in Africa and Asia rose by 6% during the first half. The markets identified included Nigeria, South Africa, the Philippines, Turkey and Morocco.

The data show that nearby EU customers continue to provide the scale underpinning Poland’s food exports, with Germany alone buying almost one-quarter of the total. Growth in selected African and Asian destinations nevertheless gives exporters additional outlets and may reduce dependence on a limited group of European buyers. The balance between established EU demand and faster-growing non-EU sales will remain important for Polish producers, processors and logistics companies.
