Indonesia’s first-half palm oil exports rise 5.79% to 16.595 million tonnes
Indonesia exported 16.595 million tonnes of palm oil products in the first half of 2026, up 5.79% year on year. Export value increased faster than volume as the average CPO export price remained above its 2025 level, while June shipments surged month on month.
First-half shipments reach 16.595 million tonnes
Indonesia’s palm oil product exports increased by 5.79% in the first half of 2026, providing additional supply to the global vegetable-oil market. Shipments reached 16.595 million tonnes in January-June, compared with 15.686 million tonnes during the same period of 2025, according to industry data cited by Indonesian palm oil publication Haisawit.
The figures, attributed to the Indonesian Palm Oil Association, known as GAPKI, indicate that the country exported 909,000 tonnes more palm oil products than a year earlier. Haisawit linked the expansion to stronger average global crude palm oil prices and accelerating demand from China. As the world’s largest palm oil supplier, changes in Indonesia’s export availability can influence purchasing decisions across the edible-oil complex, including markets for soybean oil and other competing vegetable oils.
June exports accelerate despite lower CPO prices
The strongest movement came at the end of the reporting period. Indonesia exported 3.275 million tonnes of palm oil products in June, up 64.08% from 1.996 million tonnes in May. Processed palm oil accounted for most of the June volume, rising to 2.357 million tonnes from 1.423 million tonnes a month earlier.
Crude palm oil exports recorded an even sharper percentage increase. June shipments reached 335,000 tonnes, compared with only 31,000 tonnes in May, a rise of 980%. Exports of processed palm kernel oil also advanced, reaching 116,000 tonnes from 55,000 tonnes. The broad increase across crude and processed products suggests that the monthly acceleration was not confined to a single segment of Indonesia’s palm oil industry.
Export revenue outpaces volume growth
The value of Indonesia’s palm oil product exports reached US$3.92 billion in June, 57.45% above the US$2.49 billion recorded in May. The increase was driven by higher shipment volumes even though the average CPO export price declined by 4.32%, from US$1,227 per tonne in May to US$1,174 per tonne in June. The difference between the 64.08% rise in volume and the 57.45% increase in value reflects that monthly price decline.
For the full first half, export revenue climbed 12.57% to US$19.45 billion, from US$17.277 billion in the comparable 2025 period. That was more than twice the 5.79% growth rate in physical shipments. The average CPO export price for January-June was US$1,132 per tonne, above the US$1,088 per tonne recorded a year earlier. Higher cumulative prices and a larger export volume therefore supported Indonesia’s earnings simultaneously, while the June price retreat showed that stronger overseas demand was becoming increasingly important to sustaining revenue growth.
