From 2018 to 2020, the Estonian market for wood windows and frames expanded from USD 35.7 million to USD 47.3 million. This growth was supported by industry-wide efforts to improve workforce skills and innovation capacity, coupled with a decline in pine log prices that lowered production costs and enhanced product competitiveness.

In 2021, the market dipped slightly to USD 45.2 million, coinciding with the Estonian government’s adoption of EU climate proposals that introduced new regulatory requirements for forestry and wood processing. The following year, however, the market surged to USD 55.8 million, even as record‑high timber prices in early 2022 raised raw material costs and put upward pressure on product prices.

From 2023 onward, the market entered a downward phase, falling to USD 50.1 million in 2023 and to USD 37.0 million in 2024. This contraction occurred alongside cheaper forest land and timber prices, as well as a growing supply of rental apartments in Tallinn, which reduced incentives for renovation and dampened demand for wood windows and frames.

Estonia's exports of wood windows and frames have increased for the second consecutive year. In 2021, export volume stood at 10 594 tonnes, showing a moderate 7.1% rise compared to 2020. Over the 2018-2021 period, exports grew by 33.4%, with a compound annual growth rate of 10.1%. The lowest volume was recorded in 2019 at 7 754 tonnes, which saw the largest decline of 2.3%. In contrast, the largest increase occurred in 2020, with a jump of 27.5%.

From 2018 to 2021, Sweden, Finland, and Denmark were the primary markets for Estonia's wood windows and frames exports by volume. Sweden accounted for 34.4% of exports, Finland for 31.8%, and Denmark for 17.2%. Together, these three countries made up 83.4% of total export flows.

Between 2018 and 2021, exports grew by 54.4%, equating to an average annual rate of 15.6%. The lowest value was recorded in 2019 at 53 013 thousand US dollars, which saw the largest decline of 0.9%.

The largest increase occurred in 2020, with a rise of 20.1%.

From 2018 to 2021, Denmark, Lithuania, and Norway were the main sources of wood windows and frames imports to Estonia by volume. Denmark accounted for 30.6% of imports, Lithuania for 18.2%, and Norway for 17.7%. Together, these three countries absorbed 66.4% of total import volume.
