After peaking in 2021, the market volume fell to 80.6 thousand m³ in 2022 and further to 67.9 thousand m³ in 2023. Imports declined correspondingly, reducing the overall availability of wood fuel.

In 2024, wood fuel imports rebounded to 93.7 thousand m³. This recovery coincided with the introduction of a carbon tax on polluting fuels and a growing preference for green energy sources in Israel, which may have boosted demand for wood fuel as an alternative.
