This expansion was underpinned by the population's heavy reliance on biomass for cooking, with over 90% using traditional fuels, and was further supported by the launch of the ECED-Mouhoun project aimed at increasing energy supply in the Boucle du Mouhoun region.

Government initiatives directly targeting the sector, such as the BOIS ÉNERGIE SAHEL project launched in 2021, provided a clear driver for production. The following year, a scarcity of butane gas and a sharp price surge for charcoal in Bobo-Dioulasso strengthened demand for wood fuel as a more affordable alternative for households.

Market growth continued through 2023, supported by events like the West African Mining Activity Week (SAMAO) which boosted local economic activity and energy demand, alongside the ongoing BOIS ÉNERGIE SAHEL project focused on developing the wood-energy sector in the Sahel region.
