The overall market trajectory reflects the increasing importance of cross-border trade and digital sales channels, underscored by the entry into force of the EU's Digital Markets Act in 2022, which set new rules for online platforms.

Between 2018 and 2022, the Hungarian wood door market more than doubled its import intake while domestic production grew by nearly 23%. The post-2022 import volatility suggests ongoing adjustments to evolving regulatory and digital commerce landscapes, without fundamentally reversing the market's enlarged scale.

The lowest export volume was recorded in 2019 at 9 418 tonnes, which also saw the largest decline of 9.9%. In contrast, the largest increase occurred in 2020, with a rise of 5.7%.

From 2018 to 2021, Germany, Austria, and the Netherlands remained the top buyers of wood doors, frames, and thresholds from Hungary. Germany accounted for 62.3% of exports in kind, Austria for 16.4%, and the Netherlands for 6.9%. Together, these three countries represented 85.6% of Hungary's total exports in this category.

From 2018 to 2021, Poland, Romania, and Germany were consistently the main sources for Hungary's imports of wood doors, frames, and thresholds in kind.
