This overall decrease occurred despite steady growth in domestic production, which rose from 2 485 tons to 2 541 tons over the same timeframe. The primary pressure on domestic market volume came from a sharp increase in exports, which surged from minimal levels before 2020 to over 300 tons annually from 2021 onward, effectively diverting production away from the local market.

Import volumes fluctuated significantly but remained a relatively small component of supply, while the net effect of trade shifts led to a smaller available volume for consumption within Fiji by 2023 compared to the start of the period.
