Market volume contracted in 2022 and 2023, falling to 73,935 t. The decline in production to 57,759 t in 2023 coincided with climate change effects that reduced wheat harvests in parts of Asia, limiting the availability of raw material for starch manufacturing.

During this period, the market also saw the entry of new players into the wheat starch segment and increased development of modified starch products for food and industrial applications, indicating shifts in competition and potential demand.
