The physical volume of Croatia's wheat and meslin flour market gently contracted from 267 thousand tons in 2018 to 255 thousand tons in 2024. This overall decline was interrupted by a brief recovery in 2021, but the downward trend resumed, reaching its lowest point in 2023.

Market value told a different story, remaining around 86-88 million USD until 2020 before jumping to 98 million USD in 2021. It then soared to a peak of 132 million USD in 2022, a period of high value despite lower volume, before correcting downward to 107 million USD by 2024.

This divergence between volume and value highlights a period where price factors, rather than consumption, drove significant changes in the market's monetary size.

The lowest volume was recorded in 2019 at 16 411 t, which also saw the largest decline of 32.3%.

From 2017 to 2020, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Hungary were the primary markets for Croatia's wheat and meslin flour exports in kind. Slovenia accounted for 42.3% of exports, Bosnia and Herzegovina for 26.7%, and Hungary for 11.4%. Together, these three countries represented 80.4% of total export flows.
