This overall expansion was underpinned by a steady rise in domestic production, which climbed from 239.5 thousand tons to 281.4 thousand tons across the same period.

Market volume experienced significant fluctuations during this time, most notably a contraction to 207.4 thousand tons in 2020. This decline corresponded with a dip in production and a sharp rise in export shipments. A strong recovery followed, with volume peaking at 248.2 thousand tons in 2022 as export levels temporarily receded.

By 2023, the market stabilized at 243.6 thousand tons. The consistent growth in export volumes, which increased from 18.5 thousand tons to 37.8 thousand tons between 2018 and 2023, played a key role in shaping the domestic supply available for local consumption.

The value reached its highest point in 2019 at 51 611 000 US dollars, marking a 14.3% increase from the previous year. In 2020, production value fell to 44 898 000 US dollars, a 13.0% reduction. Over the 2017-2020 period, production value grew by 13.5%, equivalent to an annualized growth rate of 4.3%.

Albania's watermelon exports have grown for two consecutive years. The lowest export volume occurred in 2018 at 18 517 tonnes, representing a 48.0% decline from the previous year. Exports then surged in 2019 with a 51.7% increase, followed by another substantial rise in 2020 to 41 401 tonnes, marking a 47.3% improvement. Between 2017 and 2020, exports increased by 16.2%, with a compound annual growth rate of 5.1%.

From 2017 to 2020, Serbia dominated Albania's watermelon exports by volume, accounting for 57.5% of total exports. Bosnia and Herzegovina followed with 12.9%, and Czechia with 11.3%. Together, these three countries represented 81.7% of Albania's total watermelon exports during this period.
