Earlier Report Observations

Bulgaria's market for vegetables, pulses and potatoes in vinegar began the period with a volume of 5 023 t in 2018. At that time, Bulgarian legumes, greenhouse tomatoes and cucumbers, and potatoes held relatively strong competitive positions on foreign markets, which supported export volumes. By 2020, domestic sales of processed and canned vegetables fell by 7%, leading to a slight contraction in the market to 6 673 t.

From 2021 onward, the market entered a phase of rapid expansion, reaching 10 411 t that year and climbing to 13 702 t by 2023. This sustained growth was driven by a sharp increase in imports, which more than doubled from 2020 levels, while exports gradually declined over the same period.

In 2024, imports decreased to 11 534 t and exports rose to 3 970 t, indicating a shift in trade flows, though the full market volume for that year is not available in the reported data.
