Earlier Report Observations

The Polish unwrought lead market contracted from 185.9 тыс. т in 2018 to 146.0 тыс. т in 2020, with the sharpest decline occurring in 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted global demand and supply chains. The scheduled closure of the Olkusz-Pomorzany zinc and lead mine at the end of 2020 further reduced domestic ore extraction, contributing to the overall market contraction.

Lead production in Poland has been dominated by state-owned companies such as KGHM, Huta Cynku Miasteczko Śląskie, Orzeł Biały, and Baterpol, with secondary lead from battery scrap accounting for 70–80% of the approximate 160 тыс. т annual output. In 2018, ZGH Bolesław commissioned a unique installation to recover zinc and lead from flotation wastes, enhancing metal recovery and minimizing waste.

After 2020, lead import volumes fluctuated, peaking at 98.1 тыс. т in 2023 before falling to 63.1 тыс. т in 2024, while exports remained above 77 тыс. т throughout the 2021–2024 period.
