Domestic production decreased from 3 733 t in 2018 to 2 277 t in 2022 before a partial recovery to 2 650 t in 2023. Over the same period, export volumes grew steadily, rising from 4 356 t in 2018 to 5 885 t in 2023 and reaching 8 138 t by 2025, which reduced the volume available for domestic consumption.

In value terms, the market followed a similar downward trajectory, dropping from $57.3 million in 2018 to $36.4 million in 2023. The data indicates a shift in the industry's focus towards international markets, as exports accounted for an increasing share of production and trade flows.

Portugal's exports of tubes, pipes, and hoses made from vulcanized rubber have declined for the third year in a row. In 2021, exports totaled 3 979 tons, marking a moderate year-over-year decrease of 3.9%. Over the period from 2018 to 2021, exports fell by 8.7%, with a compound annual growth rate of 3.0%.

From 2018 to 2021, Portugal's export destinations for tubes, pipes, and hoses of vulcanized rubber remained highly diversified. Germany accounted for 25.4% of exports in kind, France for 12.4%, and Spain for 11.1%. Together, these three countries made up only 49.0% of total flows, while a long tail of smaller markets contributed the remaining 51.0%.

Portugal's exports of tubes, pipes, and hoses of vulcanized rubber have decreased for the third consecutive year. In 2021, export value reached 38 838 thousand US dollars, showing a modest reduction of 8.8% compared to the previous year. From 2018 to 2021, Germany, France, and Romania were the top buyers of Portugal's tubes, pipes, and hoses of vulcanized rubber in value terms. Germany held 29.1% of exports, France 14.2%, and Romania 12.1%. Collectively, these three countries accounted for 55.4% of total export value.

After two years of decline, Portugal's imports of tubes, pipes, and hoses of vulcanized rubber increased in 2021. Imports registered 5 645 tons, representing a sharp uptick of 30.5% compared to 2020. The lowest volume was recorded in 2020 at 4 327 tons, which also saw the largest decline of 12.4%.

From 2018 to 2021, China, Spain, and Italy were the main sources for Portugal's imports of tubes, pipes, and hoses of vulcanized rubber in kind. China accounted for 34.9% of imports, Spain for 17.6%, and Italy for 11.5%. Together, these three countries made up 64.0% of total import flows.

Following a two-year fall, Portugal's imports of tubes, pipes, and hoses of vulcanized rubber increased in 2021. The country imported 46 934 thousand US dollars worth of these products, indicating a strong uptick of 23.7% compared to the previous year.
