The Spanish market for travel goods and handbags grew from 1 320 million USD in 2018 to 1 440 million USD in 2019, driven by the consolidated presence of international brands like Samsonite and Delsey, as well as increasing consumer interest in recycled-material products from local brands such as Wouf. The entry of new players like ARTÍCULOS ROAN S.L. and the expansion of affordable, modern designs from Misako further stimulated demand.

In 2020, market volume dropped sharply to 821 million USD. By 2021, a modest recovery to 835 million USD was supported by a growing focus on product customization and heightened emphasis on quality and domestic manufacturing among Spanish suppliers.

By 2024, the market had largely recovered, reaching 1 394 million USD.

After two years of growth, production of travel goods, handbags, and similar containers in Spain experienced a decline. In 2019, output reached its peak at 791.4 million US dollars, but by 2020, it had fallen sharply to 599.1 million US dollars, representing a significant drop of 24.3% from the previous year. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production decreased by 7.9%, which translates to an annualized decline rate of 2.7%. The largest year-on-year increase occurred in 2018, with a rise of 18.9%.

Exports of travel goods, handbags, and similar containers from Spain declined for the second consecutive year. In 2019, exports stood at a higher level, but by 2020, they had dropped to 26.6 thousand tonnes, marking a substantial decrease of 35.6% compared to the previous year. From 2017 to 2020, exports fell by 18.9%, with a compound annual growth rate of -6.7%. The peak export volume was recorded in 2018 at 41.6 thousand tonnes, which also saw the largest increase of 26.8% during this period.

Between 2017 and 2020, France, Portugal, and Italy remained the primary destinations for Spain's exports of travel goods, handbags, and similar containers in volume terms. France accounted for 20.8% of exports, Portugal for 16.8%, and Italy for 13.9%. Together, these three countries represented 51.5% of total export flows.

Following two years of improvement, Spain's exports of travel goods, handbags, and similar containers in value terms declined. In 2019, exports peaked at 1 154 million US dollars, but by 2020, they had decreased to 1 016 million US dollars, indicating a drop of 12.0% from the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, exports fell by 3.6%, with a compound annual growth rate of -1.2%. The largest increase was recorded in 2018, with a rise of 9.4%.

Data from 2017 to 2020 show that Spain's exports of travel goods, handbags, and similar containers in value terms were not heavily concentrated on a few key markets. France was the top destination with 30.3% of exports, followed by Italy at 10.5%, and Portugal at 7.0%. Combined, these three countries accounted for 47.8% of total export value.

In 2019, imports reached their highest point at 119.3 thousand tonnes, but by 2020, they had fallen to 77.6 thousand tonnes, a decrease of 35.0% from the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, imports dropped by 24.1%, with a compound annual growth rate of -8.8%. The largest increase occurred in 2019, with a rise of 10.1%.

From 2017 to 2020, China, Vietnam, and India were the main sources for Spain's imports of travel goods, handbags, and similar containers in volume terms. China dominated with 68.7% of imports, followed by Vietnam at 5.8%, and India at 3.7%. Together, these three countries made up 78.3% of total import flows.

Following two years of gains, Spain's imports of travel goods, handbags, and similar containers in value terms declined. In 2019, imports peaked at 1 803 million US dollars, but by 2020, they had contracted sharply to 1 238 million US dollars, representing a steep fall of 31.3% from the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, imports decreased by 21.1%, with a compound annual growth rate of -7.6%. The largest increase was recorded in 2018, with a rise of 8.2%.

Between 2017 and 2020, China, France, and Italy were the leading contributors to Spain's imports of travel goods, handbags, and similar containers in value terms. China accounted for 48.3% of imports, France for 13.6%, and Italy for 8.8%. Collectively, these three countries represented 70.7% of total import value.
