Earlier Report Observations

The Russian market for tapping and threading tools experienced robust growth from 2020 to 2023, with market volume rising by over 49% to reach 37 212 thousand USD. This expansion was fueled by a pandemic-induced shift toward DIY home repairs, which increased demand for hand tools, and by steady construction industry activity. Simultaneously, sanctions and geopolitical events from 2022 onward prompted a push for import substitution, bolstering domestic manufacturing.

Regulatory changes also played a key role. The introduction of new labeling and certification requirements in 2021 temporarily constrained local production, but the enactment of Federal Law No. 219-FZ in March 2022 helped streamline market rules. A sharp, 102% rise in B2B demand for fasteners in 2022 directly lifted sales of threading tools. After a dip in 2021–2022, domestic production recovered strongly, climbing to 2 168 thousand USD in 2025.

Market volume peaked in 2023 before moderating to 31 681 thousand USD in 2024, as ongoing geopolitical tensions disrupted import supply chains. Throughout the period, Russian producers strengthened their foothold, supported by investment in the tool-making sector and the emergence of new product segments in the hand-tools market.
