Earlier Report Observations

Between 2018 and 2020, the fresh tomato market in Central Asia declined from 4 046 thousand tons to 3 660 thousand tons. This contraction coincided with supply challenges during cold seasons, which underscored the region's dependence on seasonal production. Although the period saw the start of active construction of modern greenhouse complexes and continued state-supported development of protected cultivation, full year-round self-sufficiency had not yet been achieved.

The market rebounded strongly in 2021, reaching 4 047 thousand tons, driven by growing interest and investment in greenhouse technologies aimed at improving quality and supply stability. This recovery was sustained through 2023, with volumes stabilizing around 4 000 thousand tons, supported by the ongoing transition to modern greenhouse methods, the development of climate-adapted tomato varieties, and adjustments in growing geography due to climate change.

By 2024, the focus on modernizing greenhouse infrastructure intensified, with an emphasis on energy-efficient technologies and adaptation to climatic shifts. Additionally, the expansion of tomato exports to markets such as Russia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan stimulated advancements in packaging and logistics solutions.
