Russia's tallow production declined for the third consecutive year. In 2020, production reached 14 932 tonnes, marking a significant 18.7% drop compared to 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, production fell by 42.3%, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of -16.8%.

Russia's tallow exports increased for the second year in a row. In 2020, exports amounted to 216 tonnes, which is 93.8% higher than the previous year. From 2018 to 2020, exports surged by 996.5%, with a CAGR of 122.2%.

From 2017 to 2020, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan together were the primary buyers of Russian tallow, accounting for 100.0% of total exports in volume terms.

Russia's tallow exports in value terms rose for the second consecutive year. In 2020, exports totalled 92 thousand US dollars, representing a dramatic 46.4% year-on-year increase. Between 2018 and 2020, exports grew by 1 379.2%, with an annualized rate of 145.5%.

In 2020, Russia imported 5 413 tonnes of tallow, a solid 23.3% decrease from the previous year. Between 2017 and 2020, imports fell by 41.7%, with an annualized rate of -16.5%. The largest decline occurred in 2018 at 26.5%, while the largest increase was in 2019 at 3.5%.
