The market then entered a phase of stabilization in 2021 and 2022, where volumes showed minimal change, before resuming strong growth with an 8.6% increase in 2023. The complete absence of imports meant the market relied solely on local output, while exports remained a minor factor, peaking at 13.3 thousand tonnes in 2023 without limiting domestic supply.

Brazil's sweet potato production volume declined after a two-year rise. In 2021, production reached 848.3 thousand tonnes, remaining broadly stable compared to 2020. Over the 2018-2021 period, production increased by 14.5%, with a compound annual growth rate of 4.6%. The highest production was recorded in 2020 at 849.4 thousand tonnes, while the largest annual increase occurred in 2019 at 8.5%.

Exports sweet potatoe from Brazil

In 2021, Brazil's sweet potato exports stood at 6 870 tonnes, marking a 42.1% decrease from 2020. Over the 2018-2021 period, exports fell by 29.3%, with a compound annual decline rate of 10.9%. The peak export volume was recorded in 2020 at 11 870 tonnes, which also saw the largest annual increase of 34.9%.

From 2018 to 2021, Argentina, the Netherlands, and Uruguay were Brazil's key export partners for sweet potatoes in volume terms. Argentina accounted for 41.1% of exports, the Netherlands for 31.6%, and Uruguay for 10.9%, together representing 83.6% of total export flows.
