Laos experienced a second consecutive year of declining sugar cane production. In 2020, the country produced 1,337 thousand tonnes, representing a 10.3% year-on-year decrease. Over the 2017-2020 period, production fell by 24.2%, with an average annual decline of 8.8%. The peak was reached in 2018 at 1,835 thousand tonnes, which saw a 4.0% increase that year. The sharpest drop occurred in 2019, with an 18.8% decrease.
