Sugar beet production in Mali started at 11 955 t in 2018 before dipping to 11 637 t the following year. The most significant contraction occurred in 2020, when output fell to 8 223 t, a drop largely driven by supply-chain disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

A strong rebound followed in 2021, with production rising to 10 430 t, and growth continued to 11 191 t in 2022. This recovery was supported by sustained government efforts through improved seed projects and technical assistance from the Ministry of Agriculture, alongside the market-stabilizing role of the public entity OPAM (Office des Produits Agricoles du Mali).

Production decreased again in 2023 to 9 958 t. During this period, the National Population Directorate organized coordination meetings aimed at economic development, providing indirect support to the agricultural sector. By 2024, the Malian government and the Chamber of Commerce had launched campaigns to promote local consumption within the UEMOA region, focusing on domestic agricultural products including sugar beet.
