Production reached its lowest point in 2018, while peaking in 2019, with the highest volume being 8.3 times greater than the lowest. Hungary's starch exports grew for the third consecutive year in 2021, reaching 65 714 t, a 34.1% increase from 2020. Over the period from 2018 to 2021, exports surged by 261.1%, with a compound annual growth rate of 53.4%.

From 2018 to 2021, Poland, Italy, and the Netherlands were the top destinations for Hungary's starch exports by volume, accounting for 32.6%, 17.0%, and 7.9% of total exports, respectively. Together, these three countries comprised 57.5% of Hungary's starch export flows.

Hungary's starch exports continued to rise for the third year in a row in 2021, totaling 24 660 K $ US, which was 39.6% higher than in 2020. Between 2018 and 2021, export value increased by 215.4%, translating to an annualized growth rate of 46.6%.

Imports starches to Hungary

After two years of decline, Hungary's starch imports rebounded in 2021, totaling 9 230 t, a significant 12.4% increase year-over-year. The lowest import volume was recorded in 2020 at 8 211 t, while the largest decline occurred in 2019, dropping by 6.8%.

From 2018 to 2021, Germany, Austria, and Poland were the key sources for Hungary's starch imports by volume, contributing 28.5%, 14.5%, and 11.9% of total imports, respectively. Together, these three partners made up 54.9% of Hungary's starch import flows.

Following a two-year decrease, Hungary's starch imports saw a modest recovery in 2021, reaching 9 346 K $ US, a limited gain of 5.1% compared to the previous year. Between 2018 and 2021, import value fell by 5.5%, with an annualized decline of 1.9%. The lowest value was recorded in 2020 at 8 896 K $ US, while the largest drop occurred in 2019, decreasing by 5.6%.
