The soybean market volume in Gabon stood at 5 783 t in 2018 and gradually declined to 5 495 t by 2021. Domestic production remained stable between 3 981 t and 4 070 t, while imports fell from 1 802 t to 1 482 t over the same period, leading to an overall contraction in market size.

From 2022 to 2023, the market volume continued to decrease, reaching 4 967 t in 2023. This trend aligned with government policies to strengthen the agricultural sector, including a target to raise its share in GDP by at least 20% and intensify production on arable land. The establishment of the Gabonese Food Security Agency (AGASA) in 2023 aimed to boost national production and attract foreign investment, contributing to a further drop in imports to 959 t while production held steady around 4 000 t.

In 2024, the government created the Société d'Agriculture et d'Élevage du Gabon to structure and develop the agricultural sector. Additional steps included a temporary suspension of duties and taxes on certain goods, the development of special economic zones such as in Nkok, and the creation of a Gabonese label for agri-food products, all part of ongoing efforts to reduce food import dependency which exceeded 85% of needs.
