Soybean oilcake production in West Africa expanded strongly from 409 thousand tons in 2018 to 738 thousand tons in 2023, while exports rose dramatically from 14 thousand tons to 291 thousand tons over the same period. This growth in domestic output helped push the total market volume to a peak of 902 thousand tons in 2021.

Following the 2021 high, the market size moderated to 752 thousand tons by 2023, influenced by the continued rise in exports and variable import levels. Imports, after reaching 359 thousand tons in 2021, dipped before showing a significant recovery in the latest data.

Imports jumped to 463 thousand tons in 2024, a increase supported by a 24% drop in global soybean oilcake prices resulting from record South American production and high crushing activity worldwide. Steady demand from the animal feed industry, particularly for poultry farming, provided a consistent base for consumption.
