The West African groundnut oil-cake market volume rose from 1 637 thousand tons in 2018 to 1 720 thousand tons in 2019, supported by an expansion of peanut cultivation areas across the region which increased raw material availability for cake production. Concurrent improvements in extraction processes, notably hot pressing, enhanced oil yield and helped maintain steady output of cakes primarily used for animal feed.

Market volume declined to 1 585 thousand tons in 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted global supply chains for edible oils, including peanut oil, reducing trade and indirectly affecting cake availability. A recovery followed in 2021, with volume reaching 1 660 thousand tons, driven by the gradual adoption of innovative extraction technologies such as cold pressing and enzymatic methods, which improved production efficiency and cake quality, while growing consumer awareness of peanut oil's health benefits bolstered overall demand.

A sharp contraction occurred in 2022, with market size falling to 1 082 thousand tons. By 2023, the market stabilized at 1 080 thousand tons, showing minimal change and indicating a plateau after the steep decline.
