The Croatian slaked lime market volume declined from 40 106 t in 2018 to 31 674 t in 2024. After a sharp contraction to 35 777 t in 2020, the market saw a temporary recovery in 2021 before resuming its downward trajectory through to 2024.

In monetary terms, however, the market value grew consistently, rising from 2.5 million USD in 2018 to 4.8 million USD in 2024. The increase was particularly strong from 2022 onward, pointing to rising unit prices or a compositional shift toward more expensive slaked lime products.

In 2020, Croatia's slaked production was valued at 3 649 thousand US dollars, marking an 8.4% decline from 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, production decreased by 6%, with a compound annual growth rate of 2.1%. The highest value was recorded in 2019 at 3 982 thousand US dollars, which also saw the largest increase of 5.6%.

After two years of growth, Croatia's slaked production declined. In 2020, the country produced 53 927 tonnes, a 6.3% decrease from the previous year. The peak was in 2019 with 57 573 tonnes, while the largest increase occurred in 2018 at 3.6%.

Croatia's slaked exports grew for the second consecutive year. In 2020, exports totaled 21 943 tonnes, showing a slight 2.7% increase from 2019. From 2017 to 2020, exports rose by 4.7%, equivalent to an annualized rate of 1.6%. The lowest volume was in 2018 at 18 864 tonnes, which also experienced the largest decline of 10.0%. In contrast, 2019 saw the largest increase of 13.2%.

From 2017 to 2020, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, and Slovenia were the leading destinations for Croatia's slaked exports by volume. Bosnia and Herzegovina accounted for 54.2% of exports, Montenegro for 19.0%, and Slovenia for 9.6%, together representing 82.7% of total flows.

Croatia's slaked exports increased in value for the second year in a row. In 2020, exports reached 1 641 thousand US dollars, up 7.4% from 2019. Between 2017 and 2020, exports grew by 9%, with an annualized rate of 2.9%. The lowest value was in 2018 at 1 474 thousand US dollars, which also saw the largest decline of 2.1%.

From 2017 to 2020, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, and Slovenia were the key destinations for Croatia's slaked exports by value. Bosnia and Herzegovina made up 51.7% of exports, Montenegro 20.7%, and Slovenia 10.0%, collectively accounting for 82.5% of total flows.

Croatia's slaked imports rose for the second consecutive year. In 2020, imports reached 3 793 tonnes, a 6.0% increase from 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, imports surged by 49%, translating to an annualized growth rate of 14.2%. The lowest volume was in 2018 at 2 178 tonnes, which also had the largest decline of 14.4%. The largest increase occurred in 2019 at 64.3%.

From 2017 to 2020, Italy and Bosnia and Herzegovina dominated Croatia's slaked imports by volume, together accounting for 81.1% of total flows, with the remainder going to other markets.

Croatia's slaked imports increased in value for the second year in a row. In 2020, imports were recorded at 304 thousand US dollars, up 2.1% from the previous year. Between 2017 and 2020, imports grew by 47.4%, with an annualized rate of 13.8%. The lowest value was in 2018 at 196 thousand US dollars, which also experienced the largest decline of 5.0%. The largest increase was in 2019 at 51.9%.

From 2017 to 2020, Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Slovenia were consistently the main destinations for Croatia's slaked imports by value. Italy accounted for 57.9% of imports, Bosnia and Herzegovina for 17.2%, and Slovenia for 14.9%, together making up 90.1% of total flows.
