Earlier Report Observations
The coniferous roundwood market in South Korea reached its highest volume in 2018 at 5.4 million m³. This peak coincided with domestic timber companies securing production technology and expanding processing capacity for structural glued laminated timber (glulam), which increased demand for raw roundwood. Subsequently, market volume declined to 4.8 million m³ in 2019 and 4.7 million m³ in 2020.
After a temporary recovery to 4.9 million m³ in 2021, the market contracted again, falling to 4.5 million m³ in 2022 and 4.4 million m³ in 2023. By 2024, the industry landscape was marked by rising demand for eco-friendly and sustainable building materials, the adoption of automation and cross-laminated timber (CLT) technologies, and continued expansion of glulam production by major domestic firms, signaling evolving demand patterns for roundwood.
