The roundwood coniferous market in Russia experienced a series of fluctuations between 2018 and 2023. After an initial volume of 176.9 million m³ in 2018, the market shrank by 6.6% to 165.3 million m³ the following year. In 2020, it remained nearly flat at 166.0 million m³, indicating a period of stabilization.

The trend reversed in 2021 with a 3.7% increase to 172.1 million m³, but this recovery was short-lived. Volumes fell by 4.5% in 2022 to 164.4 million m³, and then by another 6.8% in 2023, bringing the market to 153.3 million m³. Overall, the market contracted by 13.3% over the six-year period.

In 2020, Russia produced 172.8 million cubic meters of roundwood coniferous, showing little change from 2019. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production grew by 2.8%, averaging an annual increase of 0.9%. The highest production level was recorded in 2018 at 186.8 million cubic meters, which represented an 11.1% increase from the previous year. In contrast, 2019 saw the largest decline, with production dropping by 7.5%.

Russia's roundwood coniferous production value declined for the second year in a row in 2020. Output was valued at 13 288 million US dollars, marking a 13.3% decrease from the previous year. From 2017 to 2020, production value fell by 4.9%, with an average annual decline of 1.7%. The peak value occurred in 2018 at 17 033 million US dollars, reflecting a significant 21.9% increase that year.

From 2017 to 2020, China was the primary destination for Russia's roundwood coniferous exports in volume, accounting for 84.2% of total shipments. The remaining share was distributed among several smaller markets.

The highest import level was recorded in 2018 at 1 thousand cubic meters, which was a 266.3% surge from 2017. In contrast, 2019 saw the largest decline, with imports falling by 68.0%. Overall, imports varied significantly, with a 3.7-fold difference between the low in 2017 and the peak in 2018.
