The market volume for rock drilling and earth boring tools in Poland experienced extraordinary growth between 2019 and 2024. Starting from a modest 56 tons in 2019, consumption surged to 1 052 tons in 2023 and further to 1 808 tons in 2024. This represents a more than thirty-fold increase over the five-year period, transforming the scale of the domestic market.

This expansion was underpinned by a sharp rise in domestic production, which increased from 778 tons in 2019 to 1 999 tons in 2024. At the same time, the structure of foreign trade shifted substantially. While Poland remained a net exporter, the volume of exports declined from 3 016 tons in 2019 to 1 985 tons in 2024, and imports also fell from 2 295 tons to 1 794 tons over the same period. The net effect was a drastic reduction in the trade surplus, allowing a much larger share of production to meet domestic demand.

In value terms, the market grew from $7.3 million in 2019 to $25.1 million in 2024. The increase in market value, though significant, was less dramatic than the volume growth, indicating changes in product mix or price levels. Notably, the unit value of exports rose, with export earnings reaching $41.5 million in 2023 despite lower physical volumes, suggesting a focus on higher-value tools.

In 2020, the export volume dropped sharply to 2 245 tonnes, which represents a significant 25.6% decrease compared to the previous year. Looking at the period from 2017 to 2020, exports fell by 45.8%, averaging an annual decline of 18.5%.

From 2017 to 2020, the main destinations for Poland's rock drilling and earth boring tools exports in volume terms were Germany, which accounted for 36.5% of the total, Colombia with 19.4%, and the United States at 4.4%. Together, these three countries made up 60.3% of all exports during this period.

In 2020, exports amounted to 19 907 thousand US dollars, marking a steep decline of 36.6% from the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, exports fell by 21.9%, with an average annual decrease of 7.9%. The peak value was recorded in 2018 at 33 056 thousand US dollars, which also saw the largest increase of 29.7%.

Between 2017 and 2020, the distribution of Poland's rock drilling and earth boring tools exports in value terms was quite diverse. Germany led with 31.8% of the total, followed by the United States at 7.1% and Czechia at 6.3%. Combined, these three countries accounted for 45.1% of exports, with no single partner emerging as clearly dominant.
