The Hungarian relay market contracted sharply between 2018 and 2020, with its total value falling from $78.2 million to $48.5 million. This decline coincided with reduced import and export activity, though domestic production showed a recovery to $4.0 million in 2020.

International trade flows for relays continued their downward trajectory through 2025. Imports declined from $192.8 million in 2018 to $135.8 million in 2025, while exports fell from $117.6 million to $92.8 million over the same period, indicating a sustained reduction in market activity.

In 2019, Hungary's relay production reached its lowest point at 2 742 thousand US dollars, declining by 8.4% that year. However, output rebounded sharply in 2020, surging 46.8% year-over-year to 4 026 thousand US dollars. Over the entire 2018-2020 period, production grew by 34.5%, representing a compound annual growth rate of 10.4%.

Hungary's relay export volume hit its lowest level in 2020 at 2 806 thousand units, falling 3.2% that year. After two consecutive years of decline, exports recovered in 2021, reaching 3 213 thousand units—a 14.5% increase from 2020. From 2018 through 2021, export volumes expanded by 10.3%, translating to a 3.3% compound annual growth rate.

Between 2018 and 2021, Hungary's relay exports were distributed relatively evenly across multiple markets. Turkey accounted for 19.6% of export volume, Germany represented 8.5%, and Poland contributed 7.8%. Hungary's relay import volume experienced its largest decline in 2020, dropping 1.9%. However, it recorded its strongest growth in 2019, jumping 48.9%. In 2021, imports reached 11 588 thousand units, marking an 11.2% increase from the previous year. Between 2018 and 2021, import volumes surged 62.5%, representing a 17.6% annualized growth rate.
