The rare gases market in Bosnia and Herzegovina experienced significant growth from 2021 to 2023, with its value increasing from $4.7 million to $6.7 million. This rise coincided with a steady expansion in domestic production, which climbed from $4.9 million to $6.3 million over the two years.

By 2024, however, the market value stabilized at $6.7 million as a sharp jump in exports to $3.5 million absorbed much of the continued production growth, which reached $7.7 million. Imports also rose throughout the period, contributing to overall supply.

In the earlier years from 2018 to 2020, import values trended downward from $1.4 million to $1.2 million, while exports fluctuated moderately around $1.5 million.

Bosnia and Herzegovina's rare gas exports declined for the second year in a row. In 2021, exports reached 2,606 thousand cubic meters, marking a 3.7% decrease compared to the previous year. Over the 2018-2021 period, exports grew by 19.4%, with an average annual growth rate of 6.1%. The highest export volume was recorded in 2019 at 2,962 thousand cubic meters, which represented a significant 35.7% increase from the previous year. The largest decline occurred in 2020, when exports fell by 8.6%.

Following a two-year decline, Bosnia and Herzegovina's rare gas imports increased in volume. In 2021, imports totaled 831 thousand cubic meters, reflecting a slight 8.1% uptick from the previous year. The lowest import volume was recorded in 2020 at 769 thousand cubic meters, which also saw the largest decline of 6.3%.

From 2018 to 2021, Croatia, Slovenia, and Austria were the key partners for Bosnia and Herzegovina's rare gas imports in volume terms. Croatia accounted for 41.3% of imports, Slovenia for 25.6%, and Austria for 20.4%, collectively making up 87.3% of total flows.
