In 2024, imports surged to 141.4 thousand tonnes while exports fell to 51.0 thousand tonnes. This shift coincided with intensified competition from new players and innovations in the organic segment, which narrowed the price gap between organic and conventional products. Growing consumer demand for plant-based and eco-friendly foods, alongside sustainability trends promoting bio-based raw materials like rapeseed oil, supported higher domestic consumption.

After two years of decline, production of rapeseed, colza, or mustard oil and fractions in South-eastern Asia rebounded. In 2020, the region produced 19 800 tonnes, marking a significant year-over-year increase of 40.4%. Over the 2017-2020 period, production grew by 25.3%, with a compound annual growth rate of 7.8%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2019 at 14 100 tonnes, which also saw the largest decline of 10.2%.

From 2017 to 2020, production value increased by 61.8%, with a compound annual growth rate of 17.4%. The minimum value was recorded in 2019 at 26 429 thousand US dollars, which experienced the largest decline of 10.5%.

The largest decline occurred in 2019 at 32.4%, while the largest increase was in 2018 at 9.0%.

From 2017 to 2020, New Zealand, Australia, and Fiji were the core export destinations in terms of volume. New Zealand accounted for 29.9% of exports, Australia for 18.7%, and Fiji for 6.3%. Together, these three countries represented 55.0% of total export flows.
