Between 2018 and 2023, the Peruvian market volume for fresh or chilled pumpkins, squash and gourds showed significant variability. It grew modestly from 213.7 thousand tons in 2018 to 217.9 thousand tons in 2019, then contracted sharply to 180.0 thousand tons in 2020. A recovery followed, with the market reaching 219.2 thousand tons in 2022 before stabilizing at 216.0 thousand tons in 2023.

The market is entirely supplied by domestic production. In 2021, the export company Key Perú reported a 33.3% contraction in its pumpkin shipments during a key campaign, operating in a small, niche market focused on specific varieties for Spain. During this period, agricultural production faced uncertainty due to scarce and more expensive fertilizers and pesticides, affecting growers' input costs.

By 2024, new pumpkin varieties such as the North American pumpkin, striped pumpkin, and mini pumpkin appeared, broadening consumer segments and strengthening seasonal demand linked to Halloween decorations. However, local consumption interest remains limited, with Lima being the main producing region on a very small scale.

Following two years of growth, Peru's production volume of pumpkins, squash, and gourds declined. In 2020, production reached 191.1 thousand tonnes, down 16.0% from 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, production decreased by 3.1%, with a compound annual growth rate of -1.1%.
