The market for fresh or chilled pumpkins, squash and gourds in Kuwait showed stability in 2018 and 2019, with volume hovering around 23 600 t. A dramatic shift occurred in 2020 when the market contracted to 13 106 t, a reduction of over 40%, primarily due to a severe drop in domestic production which fell by more than 60% from the previous year.

A gradual recovery unfolded from 2021 onward. Domestic production steadily increased each year, climbing from 8 345 t to 10 346 t by 2023. Imports varied within a range of 3 800 t to 5 800 t during this period, contributing to a market volume that reached 14 979 t in 2023, though still below pre-2020 levels.

Over the period from 2017 to 2020, imports decreased by 2.1%, equivalent to an annualized rate of 0.7%. The lowest value was recorded in 2019 at 4 422 tonnes, with the largest decline that year at 15.6%.
