Production of primary sugar crops in Ghana showed consistent growth from 152.7 thousand tons in 2018 to 156.2 thousand tons in 2023. This upward trend was initially driven by government expenditure focused on crop services and increasing production of selected crops for food security, which involved dedicated staff and resources to support agricultural output.

The expansion was further supported by the development of large private plantations for industrial crops, including sugarcane, which contributed to stable production volumes by 2022. Additionally, government interventions such as the distribution of farming starter packs to 100,000 youth in 2023 helped sustain growth by encouraging agricultural participation and improving farming practices.

Throughout the period, production increases were modest but steady, reflecting ongoing efforts to enhance the agricultural sector's productivity through policy measures and private investment.
