In 2023, new Nordic and Finnish dietary guidelines recommending no more than 350 g of red meat per week directly reduced demand for pork products. Simultaneously, growing consumer preference for poultry and a focus on convenience and cleaner labels began shifting the meat market structure. From the start of 2024, the Animal Welfare Act, which prohibits castration without pain relief and new farrowing crates, altered production methods, potentially increasing costs and affecting supply.
