Prepared or preserved groundnuts market in Czechia

Domestic production of prepared or preserved groundnuts in Czechia rose steadily from 1 696 t in 2019 to 2 551 t in 2024, with a significant surge in 2022. This growth was driven by government support for agricultural self-sufficiency in basic foods, including peanuts, and the implementation of new quality and labeling requirements for preserved nuts and groundnuts effective from January 2022, which prompted manufacturers to adapt their processes.

The physical market volume fluctuated, ending at 8 666 t in 2024, while the market value increased consistently to 30.9 million USD in 2024. This trend resulted from stricter quality regulations that elevated product standards and likely unit prices, alongside a rising export volume which reached 1 643 t in 2023, reducing domestic availability. Ongoing pesticide regulations and changes in plant protection laws from July 2023 further influenced production costs and market structure.

Imports of prepared groundnuts decreased from 8 853 t in 2019 to 7 655 t in 2024, as expanding domestic output and compliance with new food categories and labeling rules enhanced local supply. Exports more than doubled over the period, reflecting improved competitiveness due to adherence to the updated regulatory framework and agricultural policies aimed at self-sufficiency.

Over the period from 2018 to 2021, exports increased by 22%, with a compound annual growth rate of 6.9%. The lowest export volume was recorded in 2019 at 769 tonnes, which also saw the largest decline of 21.6%.

From 2018 to 2021, Slovakia, Poland, and Germany remained the top buyers of prepared or preserved groundnuts from Czechia. Slovakia accounted for 40.7% of exports in kind, Poland for 10.5%, and Germany for 8.6%. Together, these three countries represented 59.8% of total exports in kind.

Over the period from 2018 to 2021, exports grew by 27.5%, with a compound annual growth rate of 8.4%. The lowest value was recorded in 2019 at 3 427 thousand US dollars, which also experienced the largest decline of 24.4%.
