Between 2020 and 2023, Slovakia's production of precious metal ores and concentrates expanded significantly from 5 416 t to 9 767 t, with market volume growing from 4 526 t to 9 007 t. This growth was supported by sustained global factors, including geopolitical tensions and inflation, which kept precious metal prices high and encouraged mining activity. Historically, extraction in the Banská Štiavnica and Kremnica regions, along with ongoing gold reserve development at Hodruša-Hámre, provided a stable production base. Additionally, demand from the automotive industry for palladium and platinum contributed to market dynamics.

In 2024, production declined to 8 285 t and market volume fell to 7 528 t. This reversal coincided with the introduction of stricter environmental regulations, such as the Ministry of Environment decree No. 423/2024, which imposed new requirements on mining operations. Extraordinary incidents recorded by the Main Mining Office likely disrupted production, while continued global factors like a weak US dollar and inflation maintained price pressure but did not offset operational challenges.
