Earlier Report Observations

Poland's poultry fat production demonstrated consistent growth from 56 575 tonnes in 2018 to 89 787 tonnes in 2024, although domestic market volume followed a more volatile path. After a period of expansion that peaked at 78 427 tonnes in 2022, local consumption contracted sharply to 61 206 tonnes in 2023 and further to 56 921 tonnes in 2024. This decline in the home market was offset by a remarkable surge in exports, which more than quadrupled over the period, reaching 51 851 tonnes by the end of 2024.

The shift in market structure was accentuated in 2024 by changing consumer preferences toward products with lower fat content, which reduced domestic demand for poultry fat. Concurrently, outbreaks of avian influenza (H5N1) constrained the supply of poultry, affecting raw material availability and production costs for the industry. These factors contributed to the continued divergence between rising production volumes, focused on external markets, and a shrinking domestic market size.
