Following a slight contraction to 81 984 t in 2021, the market surged to 96 965 t in 2022, propelled by strengthening consumer preferences for natural and gluten-free potato flour, which spurred product innovation. By 2023, the market stabilized at 96 016 t, remaining under the influence of global trends towards healthy eating and natural ingredients.

ASEAN's production of potato flour, flakes, granules, and pellets saw a decline after two consecutive years of growth. In 2019, output reached its highest point at 12,688 tonnes, marking an 8.7% increase from the previous year. However, by 2020, production had fallen to 12,153 tonnes, representing a modest decline of 4.2% compared to 2019. Over the entire period from 2017 to 2020, production grew by 4.4%, which translates to an average annual growth rate of 1.5%.

In 2020, the value of ASEAN's potato flour, flakes, granules, and pellets production was $23.571 million, showing a significant increase of 23.9% from the previous year. The lowest value was recorded in 2019 at $19.018 million, which represented a sharp decline of 23.8% from 2018's peak of $24.952 million. From 2017 to 2020, the overall value of production rose by 13.1%, averaging an annual growth rate of 4.2%.

The export market for potato flour, flakes, granules, and pellets in ASEAN showed considerable volatility during this period. In 2018, exports hit their lowest point at 1,058 tonnes, a drop of 38.6% from the previous year. The following year, 2019, saw a dramatic recovery with exports peaking at 2,937 tonnes, an increase of 177.6%. By 2020, exports had decreased to 2,448 tonnes, down 16.7% from 2019. The difference between the peak in 2019 and the trough in 2018 was 2.8 times.

From 2017 to 2020, South Korea, the Netherlands, and Asia (not elsewhere specified) were notable but not dominant buyers of potato flour, flakes, granules, and pellets from ASEAN. South Korea accounted for 10.0% of exports in volume, the Netherlands for 4.7%, and Asia for 4.0%. Together, these three markets represented only 18.7% of total exports in kind.

By 2020, the export value had risen to $4.7 million, up 7.9% from 2019. The difference between the highest and lowest points during this period was 2.1 times.

Over the entire period from 2017 to 2020, imports grew by 4.3%, averaging an annual increase of 1.4%.

From 2017 to 2020, the main sources for ASEAN's imports of potato flour, flakes, granules, and pellets in volume terms were Germany, the Netherlands, and the United States. Germany accounted for 47.5% of imports, the Netherlands for 19.1%, and the United States for 10.3%. Together, these three countries supplied 76.9% of total import flows.

Overall, from 2017 to 2020, import value rose by 15.1%, averaging an annual growth rate of 4.8%.
