Earlier Report Observations
From 2018 to 2019, the pork market in Mali expanded from 913 t to 1 141 t, driven by a substantial swine herd, rapid urbanization, and growing demand for quality meat products. Regional external demand from countries like Côte d'Ivoire and Senegal further supported production.
The market volume dropped sharply to 679 t in 2020 but recovered to 790 t in 2021. This recovery coincided with updated regulations for animal feed and food products, which improved conditions for pork producers. In the following years, the market stabilized, reaching 798 t in 2023.
By 2024, government initiatives such as promotional cattle sales to ensure meat affordability and programs to enhance fodder resources provided indirect support to the entire livestock sector, including pork production.
