This growth was supported by industry shifts toward recycled plastic use, spurred by the European Commission's call for commitments to incorporate recycled content in new products by 2025. The introduction of biodegradable plastic sheets and increased application in construction, advertising, and manufacturing sectors further boosted demand. Despite emerging challenges in recycling multi-layer films and waste management issues, consumption continued to climb.

Market value saw a sharp increase in 2021, reaching 227.7 million $ US, driven by robust wholesale and retail activity and the popularity of composite plastic sheets, which often command higher prices. After peaking, the market volume contracted in 2022 and 2023, falling to 52 012 t, while value also declined to 178.6 million $ US in 2023. Factors such as persistent recycling difficulties and evolving consumer preferences toward eco-friendly solutions likely contributed to the downturn. A partial recovery occurred in 2024, with volume rising to 56 171 t and value to 196.0 million $ US.

Lithuania's production of plastic plates, sheets, film, foil, and strip has increased for the second year in a row. In 2021, output reached 224.7 million US dollars, marking a sharp 60.0% rise compared to 2020. Over the 2018-2021 period, production grew by 49.1%, with an average annual growth rate of 14.2%. The lowest value was recorded in 2019 at 139.9 million US dollars, which also saw the largest decline of 7.2%.
