Between 2018 and 2021, the Hungarian plastic closures market expanded from 21 570 t to 38 844 t. This growth was supported by the stability of local plastic granulate production, which ensured a reliable raw material base for manufacturers. Increasing product diversification, including a wider variety of threaded and non-threaded caps, allowed the market to meet more specific customer demands. Around 2020, rising consumer awareness and environmental concerns spurred interest in intelligent packaging solutions that improve food safety, while a shift in preferences toward higher-value dairy products in 2021 further increased the need for specialized closures.

By 2024, market volume had decreased to 28 874 t. This contraction followed the introduction of stricter EU environmental regulations in 2022, which promoted more sustainable and recyclable plastic closures and likely reduced demand for conventional products. Ongoing global supply chain difficulties and high raw material costs also presented continued challenges for producers during this period.

The lowest value was recorded in 2020 at 193.5 million US dollars, which saw the largest decline of 3.8%.

Hungary's plastic closures production increased for the second consecutive year. In 2021, 69,010 tonnes were produced, marking a 20.9% year-on-year rise. Between 2018 and 2021, production grew by 25.7%, equating to an annualized rate of 7.9%. The lowest value was recorded in 2019 at 54,781 tonnes, which experienced the largest decline of 0.2%.

After a two-year decrease, plastic closures exports from Hungary increased. In 2021, export volume reached 49,963 tonnes, showing a slight advance of 2.7% compared to the previous year. The lowest value was recorded in 2020 at 48,673 tonnes, which saw the largest decline of 2.0%.

The highest value was recorded in 2020 at 26,119 tonnes, which saw the largest increase of 39.6%.
