Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2020, the pig offal market in Singapore contracted by 13%, falling from 5 208 t to 4 513 t. Early in the period, occasional fresh pork shortages occurred as the Singapore Pork Merchants’ Association halted slaughtering and sales due to disputes over state levies. By 2020, conscious consumption trends doubled, with plant-based meat alternatives gaining ground and a major local manufacturer planning a production facility for such products, which reduced demand for traditional pork offal.

Market volume recovered to 4 784 t in 2021, aided by a sharp drop in exports. The following year, Singapore's economy grew by 3.6%, labor market conditions improved, and consumer spending increased, driving up imports of pig offal and lifting the total market size by 15% to 5 500 t in 2022.

In 2023, domestic production of pig offal plummeted by 51% to 741 t. Although imports rose, the steep decline in local output pulled the overall market volume down to 5 070 t, an 8% decrease from the previous year.
