Earlier Report Observations
From 2018, the pig offal market in Nepal began a steady climb, rising from 8 465 t to 10 820 t by 2022. This growth was largely fueled by government-led genetic improvement initiatives, including the introduction of artificial insemination using imported frozen semen, carried out by the Department of Livestock Services and the National Livestock Breeding Office. These programs enhanced pig productivity, directly boosting domestic production and overall market volume.
The market expansion continued through 2020 despite COVID-19 safety protocols that introduced logistical and supply chain disruptions. Ongoing state support for breeding and artificial insemination helped offset pandemic-related challenges, allowing production to increase. Growth accelerated in 2021 and 2022, peaking at 10 820 t, supported by the sustained focus on genetic improvement.
In 2023, market volume contracted to 9 764 t, marking a decline after several years of expansion.
