The market for pig fat in Kazakhstan began the period at 8,416 t in 2018, a level supported by continued state subsidies for animal feed that reduced production costs. A sharp contraction to 6,006 t followed in 2019, driven by outbreaks of African swine fever and subsequent government restrictions on pork imports, which constrained the supply of raw materials for fat production.

A partial recovery to 6,251 t occurred in 2020 after regulatory amendments lowered the cost accounting for pig procurement, reducing production expenses. The market volume then declined to 6,005 t in 2021 following the removal of state price controls on social food products, which led to higher retail prices and dampened consumer demand.

Market volume stabilized at 5,903 t in 2022 as enhanced controls over the labeling and packaging of food fats were enacted. It fell again to 5,658 t in 2023, a period marked by geopolitical sanctions that limited imports and the introduction of new EAEU technical regulations for animal fat content. In 2024, new subsidy rules for private entrepreneurs were established, and mandatory labeling was extended to cover products containing pig fat starting in 2025.

In 2020, the country produced 6,164 tonnes, marking a slight increase of 1.3% compared to the previous year. However, looking at the broader period from 2017 to 2020, production fell by 30.8%, which translates to an average annual decline of 11.5%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2019 at 6,085 tonnes, with the largest year-on-year drop of 27.1% also occurring that year.

The minimum value was recorded in 2019 at 4,577 thousand US dollars, and the largest decline of 41.8% also occurred in that year.
