The market for pig offal in Kazakhstan opened the period at 8 056 t in 2018, a level supported by the development of pig farming in northern regions like Kostanay and the presence of large meat processing enterprises. By 2020, the market volume had contracted to 5 611 t, a period which saw the introduction of duty-free import quotas for beef and pork within the EAEU, influencing market dynamics.

In 2021, a difficult epizootic situation and economic problems reduced domestic pig and poultry meat production, creating a supply shortage. The government's authorization of duty-free pork imports to stabilize prices helped offset the deficit, contributing to a market recovery to 5 878 t. This was followed in 2022 by a sharp 9% annual reduction in the national pig herd, which constrained production and pulled the market volume down to 5 074 t.

A resurgence to 5 542 t occurred in 2023, driven primarily by a significant increase in supplies of meat and offal from Russia. This growth in imports coincided with a reported decline in export volumes for pig offal and continued development among domestic meat processing players, offsetting the ongoing challenges in pig farming.

Kazakhstan's pig offal production increased after two years of decline. In 2020, the country produced 6 164 tonnes, marking a 1.3% improvement over the previous year. However, looking at the broader period from 2017 to 2020, production fell by 30.8%, which translates to an average annual decrease of 11.5%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2019 at 6 085 tonnes, with that year also seeing the steepest decline of 27.1%.

Kazakhstan's pig offal exports rose for the second year in a row. In 2020, exports reached 1 149 tonnes, showing a gradual increase of 8.3% compared to 2019. Despite this recent growth, exports decreased by 11.6% over the 2017-2020 period, with a compound annual growth rate of -4.0%. The lowest export volume was in 2018 at 1 043 tonnes, which also experienced the largest decline of 19.7%.

From 2017 to 2020, Vietnam, Hong Kong, and Turkey were the top destinations for Kazakhstan's pig offal exports by volume. Vietnam accounted for 64.6% of exports, Hong Kong for 13.6%, and Turkey for 5.4%. Together, these three markets made up 83.6% of total export flows.

Kazakhstan's pig offal exports in value terms declined for the third consecutive year. In 2020, exports amounted to 1 106 thousand US dollars, a reduction of 6.4% from 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, export value dropped by 46.4%, with an average annual decrease of 18.8%.

Between 2017 and 2020, Turkey and Vietnam were the leading markets for Kazakhstan's pig offal exports in value terms. Together, they accounted for 89.1% of total export flows, while the remaining share was distributed among other countries.

Kazakhstan's pig offal imports declined for the second year in a row. In 2020, imports totaled 1 149 tonnes, representing a modest decrease of 9.2% from the previous year. However, over the 2017-2020 period, imports actually increased by 10.6%, with an average annual growth rate of 3.4%. The highest import volume was recorded in 2018 at 756 tonnes, which also saw the largest increase of 40.3%. In contrast, 2019 experienced the largest decline of 13.2%.

From 2017 to 2020, Russia and Argentina were the primary sources for Kazakhstan's pig offal imports by volume. Together, they accounted for 80.3% of total import flows, with other markets making up the remainder.
