Earlier Report Observations

The Polish market for parts of primary cells and batteries expanded from 2.9 million USD in 2018 to 3.2 million USD in 2019, driven by a global surge in battery production of 52–84% and heightened demand from military, aviation, and industrial sectors. New technologies like graphene-reinforced silicon electrodes also emerged, promising longer battery life. However, the market contracted to 1.7 million USD in 2020, coinciding with a peak in global production and increased market volatility.

In the following years, import values fluctuated significantly, falling from 3.1 million USD in 2021 to 1.6 million USD in 2022. This shift occurred against a backdrop of rising raw material prices and global supply chain disruptions, which elevated costs and affected product availability. Worldwide production of primary batteries declined by 2.6% in 2022, reflecting these industry challenges.

From 2023 onward, the market began adapting to the new EU Battery Regulation 2023/1542, which introduces mandatory CE marking from August 2024 and limits lead content in portable batteries to 0.01%. Requirements for durability, performance, recycling, and ease of battery replacement in devices are reshaping standards for producers and importers in Poland.
